A King and a Kingdom

I pledge allegiance to the flag….
To the what? A cloth banner?
Of the United States of America…
Ahh I know that place, nice folks thereabout (mostly)
And to the Republic for which it stands…
Ok now I get ya, allegiance to the republic,…
I’m sorry, I already have a King
My only allegiance is to this King and his Kingdom
And by the way, should a democratic republic built on freedom
of dissent have citizens to pledge allegiance to it?

One nation, under God…
Whoah slow down there, I’m sorry my God is too big for one nation,
Are you trying to say the other nations are not “under God”?
What does it mean to be “under God” anyway?
Or is it more like we just happen to be one of the nations under God?
Or are you just trying to point out that you are a single nation “one” nation,
and happen to be under God?
If so, are there any nations that are “two” nations? Or more?
Does the European Union pledge,… 27 nations, under God?
Were you “under God” before 1954?
Do all your citizens have to believe in God for your nation to be “under God”?
Which God?  What percent of citizens?

Indivisible…

Is that stating a fact or hoping for the grace?
I’m not sure that anything made by man is “indivisible”…
The succession thing has come up a few times, and you’re pretty young.
You really had to fight for it hard one time, and I’m not so sure it was a purely noble fight.
But I suppose that was before you had this nifty pledge…

With Liberty and Justice for all.

Umm,….I’m sorry….have you been to the same United states that I live in?
I surely hope this is another plea for grace and not a statement of fact…
Perhaps you could say “in hopes of providing liberty and justice for all.”
Or something like that.  It is a nice and happy though after all.
It’s just that saying “One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
Seems to be stating all those things as factual, pledge worthy, realities…
Swearing by them seems to be calling them irrefutable…
I’m sorry I can’t lie in a pledge….my King taught me better than that.
In fact he told me (by our brother James) not to swear …by heaven or by earth,
Or by any other oath….ANY OTHER OATH.
Let my yes be my yes and my no be my no. (James 5:12)

So…no…I will not pledge allegiance to your flag and your country.
Ask me…will you betray this country…I answer no
Ask me…do you love this country, will you be a noble citizen…I answer yes.

But my only allegiance is to my King and his Kingdom.

Welcome to the show.

Shane Lancaster and blogging,
a natural pairing, what took so long?
I suppose I had that myspace thing for a bit, but it was seldom and long ago.
I bid you welcome you few brave souls that have ventured here.
Here I am sure to offer copious bouts of insanity, heresy, hypocrisy and political irregularities.
Who is Shane Lancaster? Why is what he thinks important?
Shane Lancaster is a child of the living God,
a man who thinks too much,
a most liberal Southern Baptist, and most conservative Charismatic,
too pro life and pro state rights for the Democrats
and too pro gay marriage and pro social programs for the Republicans,
a socialist, pro fair tax, Catholic loving evangelical,
in fact, you can call me anything you want if you let me define the terms.
My every word holds 12 disclaimers (I say that with a caveat)
and none of my views are black and white and without practiced nuance
Nothing comes easy, everything is subtle, is temporary, and said hesitantly.
I offer all my views with the humility of a man who knows that at least a third of what he tells you is absolutely incorrect, but cannot offer to you which third that may be.
I want to ask the hard questions, the ones that may not have answers,
I want to answer them…
Welcome, this should be an interesting show.
